Hall of Fame: Rangers' All Time Greats Bob MacCallum
The Rangers Hall
of Fame was established in 2000 as a way of commemorating the achievements of
the most celebrated players in the history of the famous Glasgow club.
The names of seventy-four legendary players who are members of the Hall
of Fame are picked out in gold on a panel given pride of place above the famed
marble staircase inside the entrance to Ibrox Stadium. The names range from one
of the club’s founders Moses McNeil to recent captain Barry Ferguson. The
initial list that contained players from the earliest days of the club was
compiled by a committee but in recent years the Rangers fans themselves get a
chance to vote new players into the Hall of Fame. Author Bob
MacCallum, a true blue nose, has written three other books about Rangers, and
his enthusiasm for the club shows in his entertaining and informative account of
every player elected to the Rangers’ Hall of Fame as well as an overview of
the era in which they played and the managers who signed them for the club.
Names like legendary captains George Young and John Grieg, fearsome
strikers like Willy Henderson and Colin Stein, silky midfielders like Jim Baxter
and Paul Gascoigne, and heroic defenders like Richard Gough and Sandy Jardine
– the list is endless and the names will be familiar to every Rangers fan and
every lover of Scottish football. |
